My mind naturally observes patterns, creates associations, and generates ideas based on these observations. Design is a creative outlet for these new ideas. Design is challenging and rewarding, as it continuously presents problems to solve and cultivates my growth, both, as a designer and as an individual.

Research is the most important phase in my design process. I take time to thoroughly understand the design objective and explore various techniques to arrive at the optimal solution for conveying the message. The work of well-known Artists and Designers from Graphic Design history have played a substantial role in the development of my design style. I regularly flip through my copy of Meggs’ History of Graphic Design for both, inspiration and confidence, knowing that I will find something new that piques my curiosity. I then delve into further research about the specific designer, piece, technique, philosophy, or approach that interests me. Acquiring this knowledge helps me view and approach the same problem from different angles and implement these new methods in the creation of future work.

My main design influences are Art Deco, Pop Art, Bauhaus, and the Swiss Style. When it comes to color, I’m fascinated by the rich palettes and lively color combinations used by Artists of the Pop Art movement. When it comes to typography, I look up to the work of the Designers who were part of the Bauhaus Movement and the Swiss Style. I appreciate the simplicity of their designs, specifically, the selective usage of color, modern typefaces, and underlying grid systems of
each composition.

YaeRim enjoys widening her skillset, knowledge base, and experience as an early creative, and continues to pursue her
career aspiration in Cosmetics Packaging Design.

When YaeRim is not searching for a solution to a design problem, she’s brainstorming a resourceful DIY storage hack for home organization (Tiny House Nation is one of her favorite TV shows), out and about solving bouldering problems on her favorite rock-climbing walls of local studios, or traveling with friends around the Bay Area to play Real Escape Room Games.

YaeRim has always had an innate sense for working with color. Whether that be a fun and lively color combination or a more muted and calm color palette, she thrives when put up to the task of creating color combinations in styling or accessorizing outfits and creating hair and makeup looks for her friends and family members. Now, equipped with a strong foundation in design elements and principles, she looks forward to continuously honing these skills and applying them to create dynamic layouts using impactful color and typography. Her winning work has been featured, both online and in a gallery. YaeRim is one of the winners of “Show Us Your Type” International Design Contest, Buenos Aires edition.
